The fourth Thursday of November and the start of the busiest travel window of the New Mexico year. If you are travelling into the region for the long weekend, book accommodation and tables well ahead; the Winter Indian Market follows on the Saturday and Sunday in Santa Fe.

SWAIA Winter Indian Market (21st annual)

The Southwestern Association for Indian Arts brings juried Native art to Santa Fe for the Thanksgiving weekend: jewellery, pottery, textiles and painting, sold by the makers themselves. It is the smaller, calmer cousin of August's enormous Santa Fe Indian Market, and the best place in the region to buy directly from the artists. Santa Fe is about an hour from Abiquiu.
