Abiquiu and New Mexico Events - April 2027

← March 2027 | All months, 2027

April brings the high desert's first real warmth and, this year, a new date for the region's art calendar: the inaugural Santa Fe Invitational, four days of international galleries anchored at the Santa Fe Convention Center. The village stays quiet; Santa Fe does not. The entry below carries the sources we checked on 16 October 2026.

What is on in April

Santa Fe Invitational (inaugural edition)

Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 April 2027

A new art fair for the city: about 45 international galleries, anchored at the Santa Fe Convention Center and extending out through Santa Fe over four days. For a visitor it is a concentrated way to see a season's worth of contemporary work in one trip, and Santa Fe is about an hour's drive from Abiquiu.

Where: Santa Fe Convention Center, Santa Fe, with events across the city

Tickets: Paid admission

Sources: Santa Fe Invitational (organiser), showing April 08-11, 2027, and Artforum, 9 October 2026 - checked 16 October 2026

The Santa Fe Invitational is the one April 2027 date in the Abiquiu and Santa Fe radius we can currently stand behind. The Taos and Santa Fe galleries open their spring shows through April and the state tourism office event list carries the spring festivals as they are announced.

One thing that will not be back: the Gathering of Nations Powwow. The 43rd edition, held in Albuquerque on 24 and 25 April 2026, was the last one - the organiser's own FAQ answers "Will there be a 2027 Gathering of Nations Powwow?" with a plain no. If you were planning a spring trip around it, there is no 2027 date to plan around.

April is also the month the cottonwoods leaf and the light comes back to Plaza Blanca: see photography for when the light is best.
